Scripture Writing for Lent and Easter

February 2017 – Lent is right around the corner! This year it starts on March 1st, which could really take you by surprise if you haven’t been looking ahead to next month at all yet.

This year I developed a simple Bible study that can lead you through a time of reflection during this Lent and Easter season.

The study leads you through a period of reflecting on the key events that surround Holy Week. This study includes Old Testament prophecies, the chronological events leading up to Christ's death and resurrection, His appearance to His followers after His resurrection, and His ascension into Heaven. It even goes on to include some New Testament teachings about Christ's victory over death, and ends with the joyous expectation of His second coming!

The study is FREE and requires no advance preparations of any kind. Simply download and print the outline below and you’re all set to go!

Reflections for Lent and Easter

Lent is a season of 40 days, not counting Sundays. It begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday (the day before Easter). The Sundays in Lent are not counted as a part of the 40 days because each Sunday represents a “mini-Easter”that allows the reverent spirit of Lent to be sprinkled with joyful anticipation of the Resurrection.

It is a common practice in the church to observe the days of Lent in solemn reflection. But this particular study is designed to go a step further than that. This study leads you through reflections for Lent, Easter, and the events that followed Christ’s resurrection.

This study is designed to take two whole months (a total of sixty-one days) for reflecting on the events of Holy Week and the resurrection of our Lord. It is also designed to be done as a Scripture Writing study, as described below.

The Scripture Writing Method

The Scripture Writing method is very simple. Each day you are given a scripture passage to read, write, and ponder. The “writing”is a key feature to this method, as writing things out is one of the best ways to form a complete thought and to stay focused amidst any distractions around you.

It only takes a few minutes to write out the passages of scripture. When you’re finished writing out the Scripture passage for the day we would encourage you to go a step further and write out your thoughts or observations, or to journal a little with regards to what you sense the Spirit teaching you or convicting you of in the moment. We would also encourage you to write out prayers before and/or after your study times. You might also consider posting the verses you wrote out up on a wall in your home to encourage further reflection throughout the day.

We hope that this study will be a great blessing to you as we enter the season of Lent and enter into the joyous celebration of Easter!
